Executive Officers

D. Keith Grossman

President, Chief Executive Officer and Director

D. Keith Grossman has over 30 years of experience in the medical supplies and devices field. Mr. Grossman became President and Chief Executive Officer in September 2014, a position he held previously with our Company from January 1996 until January 2006. In addition, Mr. Grossman has been a director of our Company since February 1996. From December 2011 until its sale to Bayer Healthcare in September 2013, Mr. Grossman served as President and Chief Executive Officer and a director of Conceptus, Inc., a women's health medical device company. From September 2007 to December 2011, Mr. Grossman served as a Managing Director with TPG (Texas Pacific Group), a private equity firm, in their healthcare investment team. Prior to joining us in 1996, Mr. Grossman held a variety of management positions with companies including Sulzermedica (formerly Intermedics, Inc.) and American Hospital Supply Corporation. Mr. Grossman serves as a member of the board of directors of ZELTIQ Aesthetics, Inc. and previously served as a member of the board of directors of Intuitive Surgical, Inc., Kyphon, Inc., Conceptus, Inc., and a number of privately held medical device companies. Mr. Grossman received a B.S. in life sciences from The Ohio State University and an M.B.A. from Pepperdine University.

Taylor Harris

Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Taylor Harris joined Thoratec in 2010 as Senior Director of Investor Relations and Business Development. Prior to joining Thoratec, he worked at JPMorgan Chase & Co. for over a decade in several capacities, including as a Vice President in the firm's Healthcare Investment Banking and Equity Research departments. In these roles, he covered the medical device sector as an investment research analyst and advised healthcare companies on a broad range of strategic and capital markets transactions. He holds a B.A. in Physics and Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

David A. Lehman

Senior Vice President and General Counsel

David Lehman joined Thoratec as Vice President, General Counsel and Secretary in May 2003 and became Senior Vice President in 2007. Prior to his arrival, he was Vice President and General Counsel at Brigade Corporation, a business process outsourcing company, and previously held positions in the legal departments of Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc., a life science research and clinical diagnostics company, and Mitsubishi International Corporation, a Japanese trading company, in their New York and Tokyo offices. He began his career as an associate attorney at the law firm of Hall, Dickler, Kent, Friedman & Wood in New York. He has a bachelor's degree in political science from The University of California, San Diego and a J.D. from Cornell University Law School.

Vasant Padmanabhan

Senior Vice President, Technical Operations

Vasant Padmanabhan, Ph.D., joined Thoratec as Senior Vice President, Technical Operations in June 2014. Prior to joining Thoratec, Dr. Padmanabhan served in various research and development leadership positions for 18 years with Medtronic Inc., a medical device manufacturer. Most recently, Dr. Padmanabhan was Vice President, Product Development, CRDM Implantable Defibrillator Business. Dr. Padmanabhan holds a bachelor's degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Trichy, India, and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Rutgers University, New Jersey, USA.

Niamh Pellegrini

President, North America

Niamh Pellegrini has over twenty-five years of experience in the healthcare industry through a broad range of operational and commercial leadership positions. Ms. Pellegrini joined Thoratec in October 2014 as President, North America, with responsibility for all commercial operations within North America. Prior to joining Thoratec, Ms. Pellegrini held senior sales, marketing and general management positions within the LifeScan and Acclarent business units of Johnson and Johnson. Most recently, she was Vice President, Strategy & International Market Development with Acclarent. Ms. Pellegrini holds a B.S. in Finance and an M.B.A. from Santa Clara University.
