Gerhard F. Burbach
President, Chief Executive Officer, and Director
Gerhard Burbach joined Thoratec as president and chief executive officer in January 2006, at which time he was appointed to the board of directors. Prior to his arrival, Mr. Burbach served as president and chief executive officer of Digirad Corporation, a leading provider in solid-stage cardiology and nuclear medicine imaging products and services. Mr. Burbach has held executive positions at Bacchus Vascular Inc. and Philips Nuclear Medicine, as well as the consulting firm of McKinsey & Company, Inc. He has a bachelor's degree in industrial engineering from Stanford University and a master's degree in business administration from Harvard Business School. In addition to the Thoratec Board of Directors, Mr. Burbach also serves on the boards of Fluidigm Corporation and AdvaMed.
Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
Taylor Harris joined Thoratec in 2010 as Senior Director of Investor Relations and Business Development. Prior to joining Thoratec, he worked at JPMorgan Chase & Co. for over a decade in several capacities, including as a Vice President in the firm's Healthcare Investment Banking and Equity Research departments. In these roles, he covered the medical device sector as an investment research analyst and advised healthcare companies on a broad range of strategic and capital markets transactions. He holds a B.A. in Physics and Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
David A. Lehman
Senior Vice President and General Counsel
David Lehman joined Thoratec as vice president, general counsel and secretary in May 2003 and became senior vice president in 2007. Prior to his arrival, he was Vice President and General Counsel at Brigade Corporation, a business process outsourcing company, and previously held positions in the legal departments of Bio-Rad Laboratories, Inc., a life science research and clinical diagnostics company, and Mitsubishi International Corporation, a Japanese trading company, in their New York and Tokyo offices. He began his career as an associate attorney at the law firm of Hall, Dickler, Kent, Friedman & Wood in New York. He has a bachelor's degree in political science from The University of California, San Diego and a J.D. from Cornell University Law School.
Senior Vice President, Technical Operations
Vasant Padmanabhan, Ph.D., joined Thoratec as Senior Vice President, Technical Operations in June 2014. Prior to joining Thoratec, Dr. Padmanabhan served in various research and development leadership positions for 18 years with Medtronic Inc., a medical device manufacturer. Most recently, Dr. Padmanabhan was Vice President, Product Development, CRDM Implantable Defibrillator Business. Dr. Padmanabhan holds a bachelor’s degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Trichy, India, and a Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering from Rutgers University, New Jersey, USA.
